So, you want to step away from the office and actually take a holiday? Well you may or may not be surprised to hear this but if you’re running a digital based business you probably didn’t need to go into the office at all to begin with! I know, shocking, right? Well that may not be true. But for most us this time of the year we are looking at taking some time off and we are wondering how that will work exactly.
Thankfully, in this modern day and age where everything and everyone is connected at all times by tiny computers in our pockets there are a multitude of different ways that a digital based business, or maybe just the digital aspects of your business, can continue to be operated remotely. Many of them are a lot simpler than you may think. With the Holiday season at its peak this is the perfect time to reassess our options for how to keep the content flowing and the clients serviced online.
Plan Ahead: Planning ahead is always a good idea and you were already doing that anyway, right? If you are operating one or more social media accounts for your business be sure to create content to post in your absence, then schedule posts in advance. This is almost certainly common knowledge for digital marketers but many small businesses who operate social media pages may not realize that Facebook makes scheduling posts for your business page very simple. When you create a new post just click the downward pointing triangle and select “schedule” from the dropdown menu. Follow the instructions in the prompts that come up and you can schedule a post any time, up to six months in advance. So if you are really neurotic and already thinking about the 4th of July you can get right on that next month.
If you have a multitude of different social media pages to manage you can go professional and invest in a Hootsuite account. Hootsuite allows you to easily manage a myriad of different social media accounts all from one place. You can schedule posts for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Plus ect. You can monitor comments and engagement all from one place using Hootsuite. Hootsuite allows offers a multitude of other features if you are willing to upgrade your service. Depending on the type of presence your business occupies online this may or may not be the right option for you. And like everything else Hootsuite has a mobile app so you can really bring your digital business with you when you take that much-needed holiday vacation.
Remember to actually take a vacation: Speaking of the phone, maybe leave it behind for awhile. Most of the managing can be done remotely for digital based business but be sure to keep yourself in check during the time off! If you are concerned about letting things run in your absence leave someone else in charge while you are gone. Just make sure they know what they are doing!
