How to Increase Your Click-Through Rate
There are a lot of things you can do to increase click-through rate for content marketing. According to a Hubspot article, the average attention span of online users has dropped below that of a goldfish. Apparently, that is less than eight seconds. So, in other words, you are about to stop reading this blog post right about now.
Templates are useful but creating quality content is manual
Even though they are technically different things, click through rate(CTR) and content generation are relatable concepts that not only share similar traits but also work together on certain levels. We can get into all the little tweaks you can do to get your content in front of a potential audience and what motivates them to click on it or not but first, don’t you want to make sure that the content itself is good? That is why one of the number one ways is increase CTR is to just generate quality, useful content for your audience.
It seems daunting, creating quality content that people will want to consume online. You will be speaking to the largest assembled crowd on the planet and many of the other voices will undoubtedly have similar and often better versions of the same opinion or piece of advice.
That is why there are so many different tools that can provide various templates for content generation. If you are interested, Hubspot offers everything from blog topic generators to actual blog post templates that walk you through writing almost word for word. Tools like this can be useful for brainstorming. But this just reinforces the notion that plagues quality content online and motivates the goldfish attention span; the content is so repetitive that it is almost copy and paste. What’s the point of even writing them?
Creating quality content is just as difficult as it seems to be and that is why, until artificial intelligence becomes responsive, it will always be a manual process. It is also a multi-faceted process. Research is key, because that’s the foundation of the ideas you are trying to share. The remainder of the process should be like a balance of information and entertainment.
You want your audience to understand and relate to you and be able to walk away with something valuable. For most people, discovering actionable ideas that help solve problems is almost always motivation enough to be sure to bookmark, follow or just generally keep an eye on the author that provided the solution.
Make your first impression count by customizing title tag and meta description
Beyond that, depending on what you are trying to get users to click on you will probably want to change up your strategy a bit while still maintaining that constant quality content.
For example, if you are setting up a blog page you should make sure that you are creating good copy but also take the time to be sure it is prepared properly as you would like users to see it. Simple things like customizing the title tag and meta description that appears in the search engine results page or SERP goes a long way.
This is the user’s first impression of your blog. If you allow Google to post the information as it is by default, more than likely Google will provide an incomplete snippet. If you are using WordPress it is very simple to set this up. Depending on how you have developed your website there are different ways of achieving this, the simplest of which involves using the Yoast plugin for WordPress.
